Sunbury has a character all its own, a satellite township on the banks of Jacksons Creek that has kept a real sense of country life even as Melbourne has grown out to meet it. Its history runs deep, from the grand Rupertswood Mansion where the Ashes were born in 1882, to the Sunbury Clocktower and the old courthouse, and the land itself holds important Wurundjeri heritage in the earth rings near the creek. Today it is a diverse and welcoming community, home to Italian, Macedonian, Irish and Maltese families among many others, with daily life centred on the shops and cafes along Macedon Street.
